"A meteor (or similar extra terrestiral object) crashes onto Earth in a desert a couple of miles from a small town with few inhabitants. Following scientific research, the town discovers that some form of extra-terrestrial virus has somehow survived on the meteor, and the force of impact has resulted in the virus to spread very rapidly to a 3 -mile radius, which includes the nearby town.
Soon enough the effects of the virus are clear - those infected begin to decompose as though they are corpses. Following more scientific experiments, they are informed that the effects of decomposition are prolonged when living beings (regardless of their infection status) are eaten. Initially the effects are prolonged with smaller creatures, such as insects and small birds, but soon enough as the virus gets stronger, the town must eat larger animals such as small mammals, and soon enough, they must begin to eat each other. The entire town essentially becomes a race of conscious, moral zombies. They must eat, but not be eaten.
Our protagonists have decided to barricade themselves in a house upon hearing that humans are to eat humans to survive, but being that they're barricaded, their only chance of survival is to eat each other. And only one will ultimately survive in the hopes of defeating the virus.
We finally whittle down to two final survivors, and a monstrous battle of gore and heavy violence. One bites into the other, only to find that the virus is still growing, and not even humans are enough to sustain it any more. They all die."
